Julie DayBorn in South Dakota, USA, Julie Day grew up with a passionate interest in art, and sculpting in particular. Her work is edgy and confrontational, bringing the viewer face-to-face with the realisation of the essential nature of his or her unique biological identity. Imbued in her work is the realisation that our attitudes towards ourselves, as living organic beings, are deeply conflicted in a society that idealises unattainable beauty, while ignoring the deeper, chthonic processes of body and mind. Her biological sculptures free us to examine our reactions to the reality of our fleshy existence in all its messy glory. |
